Iodonate iodine-containing antiseptic. The main active substance is molecular iodine, which has an antiseptic property. It has a bactericidal effect on both gram-positive and gram-negative flora (most active on streptococcal flora, Escherichia coli and Proteus), as well as pathogenic fungi and yeast. It causes the death of anthrax spores. A more stable flora is staphylococcus, but with prolonged use of the drug in 80% of cases, staphylococcal flora is suppressed. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to iodonate. The drug is low toxicity.

Instructions for use and dosing regimen

Iodonate is used as an antiseptic only for the disinfection of the skin of the operating field, as a substitute for a solution of Iodine alcohol. Use a solution containing 1% free iodine. To do this, dilute the original iodonate solution 4.5 times with sterile or boiled distilled water before use. The received 1% solution is smeared twice with the operating field before the operation. Additional treatment of the skin with alcohol is not required. Before applying seams to the skin, re-treat the edges of the wound with a 1% solution.

In chronic tonsillitis, lacunae of the tonsils and supratonsillar spaces are washed. Produce 4-5 washings at intervals of 2-3 days. One dose of iodonate is 50 ml.

With chronic purulent otitis: mesotympanites - daily instillations of 5-8 drops, epitimpanitis - washing of the attic (part of the middle ear). The course of treatment is 2-4 weeks.

In the treatment of chronic atrophic rhinitis (ozena), after preliminary softening and removal of crusts, the nasal cavity and throat are irrigation 2-3 times a week for 2-3 months.

For trophic and varicose ulcers, gauze napkins (3 layers) moistened with the drug are applied to the surface of the ulcer. Preliminary wash the skin with warm water and soap, and the skin around the ulcer is smeared with zinc ointment. The dressing is performed 1-2 times a day, while gauze lying on the surface of the ulcer is not removed, but again impregnated with a solution. After 4-7 days, appoint a general or local bath, then again continue this treatment.

With purulent wounds and infected burns, a loose gauze dressing impregnated with Iodonate is applied. At fresh thermal and chemical burns of 1 and 2 degrees also impose a gauze dressing, impregnated with a solution. The inner layer of the dressing is irrigated with the drug as needed.

Feedback from an otorhinolaryngologist

Iodonate is a well-proven antiseptic. I widely use it for the treatment of patients with tonsillitis, chronic tonsillitis and chronic purulent otitis. Patients perfectly tolerate manipulation (lavage of lacunae of tonsils, instillation of solution into the ear). In my practice there was not a single case of development of iodism. Only once in a patient with epitimpanitis during treatment on the skin appeared itchy rashes. But she immediately remembered that she had already had such a reaction to iodine, but she forgot about it.In this case, treatment with iodonate had to be stopped.
