Teturam - instructions for use, analogs, testimonials and release forms (tablets 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg and 250 mg) of the drug for the treatment of chronic alcoholism and elimination of craving for alcohol in adults, children and pregnancy

In this article, you can read the instructions for using the drug Teturam. Comments of visitors of the site - consumers of this medication, as well as opinions of doctors of specialists on the use of Teturam in their practice are presented. A big request is to actively add their feedback on the drug: the medicine helped or did not help get rid of the disease, which were observed complications and side effects, possibly not declared by the manufacturer in the annotation. Analogues of Teturam in the presence of existing structural analogues. Use to treat chronic alcoholism and eliminate cravings for alcohol in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Teturam - means for the treatment of alcohol dependence.Has an inhibitory effect on the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase, which is involved in the metabolism of ethyl alcohol. This leads to an increase in the concentration of the metabolite of ethyl alcohol acetaldehyde, which causes blood flushes to the face, nausea, vomiting, general malaise, tachycardia, lowering blood pressure, which make it extremely unpleasant to drink alcohol after taking Teturam.

Composition

Disulfiram + auxiliary substances.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, a fast, but incomplete (70-90%) absorption of the active substance from the gastrointestinal tract occurs. Due to its high solubility in lipids, Disulfiram is widely distributed in the body and accumulates in various fat stores. Disulfiram is rapidly metabolized to diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC), which is partially excreted as carbon disulphide with exhaled air and partially metabolized in the liver to methyl-DDC. The latter turns into an active metabolite - diethylthiocarbamic acid methyl ester (methyl-DTK). With a weak or moderate deterioration in liver function, the metabolism does not change. On the contrary, with cirrhosis of the liver an increase in the concentration of metabolites in the blood is observed. Metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine.Part is displayed with exhaled air in the form of carbon disulphide. 20% in the form of unchanged disulfiram is excreted through the intestine. Up to 20% of the dose can remain in the body for 1 week or more. Despite very low levels, disulfiram-ethanol reactions can occur within 5-9 months after implantation.

Indications

For oral administration:

  • prevention of relapse during the treatment of chronic alcoholism.

For implantation:

  • treatment of chronic alcoholism
  • as a detoxification agent for chronic nickel poisoning.

Forms of release

Tablets 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg and 250 mg.

Other dosage forms, be it drops or capsules, do not exist.

Instructions for use and reception scheme

When administered orally, the dose is 125-500 mg per day, the treatment regimen is determined individually.

When implanted in the subcutaneous fat tissue with the help of a special technique, 800 mg is administered.

Side effect

  • metallic taste in the mouth;
  • polyneuritis of the lower extremities;
  • neuropsychic disorders;
  • decreased memory;
  • disorientation;
  • headache;
  • skin rash;
  • itching.

Reactions caused by disulfiram-ethanol association: collapse, cardiac rhythm disturbances,attacks of angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, brain edema.

Contraindications

  • severe cardiovascular diseases;
  • severe hepatic impairment;
  • diabetes;
  • epilepsy;
  • neuropsychic diseases;
  • simultaneous reception of phenytoin, isoniazid, metronidazole;
  • simultaneous use of beverages containing alcohol or taking medications containing ethanol, as well as their use within 24 hours after taking disulfiram;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation;
  • hypersensitivity to disulfiram.

Application in pregnancy and lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

Pregnancy should be excluded before implantation. Against the background of disulfiram it is necessary to use reliable contraceptives.

Use in children

The drug is contraindicated in children and adolescents under the age of 18 years.

special instructions

Use with caution in patients with renal failure, liver disease, respiratory system.

Drug Interactions

With simultaneous use with anticoagulants coumarin derivatives (incl.with warfarin) increases anticoagulant effect, increases the risk of bleeding.

Disulfiram inhibits liver enzymes, so with the simultaneous use of drugs metabolized in the liver, a violation of their metabolism is possible.

With the simultaneous use of disulfiram with tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazine derivatives, MAO inhibitors, there is a risk of developing serious adverse reactions associated with drug interactions.

A case of developing mania in a patient taking Teturam and buspirone is described.

With simultaneous use, the clearance of desipramine and imipramine from the body decreases.

With simultaneous application with amitriptyline, the therapeutic effect of disulfiram may be enhanced, but it is also possible to increase the toxic effect of Amitriptyline on the central nervous system.

With simultaneous use, the concentration of Diazepam and chlordiazepoxide in the blood plasma increases, in some cases accompanied by dizziness. Under the influence of diazepam, a decrease in the intensity of the disulfiram-alcohol reaction is possible. A case of increasing the toxicity of temazepam is described.

With concomitant use with isoniazid, there have been cases of dizziness, depression; with Caffeine - reduces the withdrawal of caffeine from the body; with Metronidazole - develops acute psychosis, confusion; with Omeprazole - described the case of the development of impaired consciousness and catatonia.

With the simultaneous use of perphenazine, the development of psychotic symptoms can not be ruled out.

With simultaneous use, Teturam inhibits the metabolism and excretion of rifampicin.

With simultaneous application with phenazone, T1 / 2 of phenazone increases; with phenytoin - the effects of phenytoin increase due to an increase in its concentration in the blood plasma, toxic reactions develop.

With simultaneous application with chlorosoxazone, the concentration of chlorosoxazone in the blood plasma increases; with chlorpromazine - it is possible to increase arterial hypotension.

5 years ago, the injection of an analogue of disulfiram helped me cope with progressive alcoholism. Appealed to the narcologist for help, tk. I understood that I can not change my way of life independently (taking into account the drinking environment). The injection was intravenous, sensation about as from potassium chloride with reddening of the skin and unusual (write that metallic) taste in the mouth. After the injection, the red face and neck were about 0.5 hours. The taste in the mouth for a year "came back" for a while, perhaps it was my suspiciousness. There were no other effects on the part of the body. It took 5 years: I do not drink alcohol at all, but if necessary I feel at ease in a moderately drinking society of colleagues and friends.
