Presented are reviews of visitors to the site - consumers of this medication, as well as opinions of doctors specialists on the use of Almagel in their practice. A big request is to actively add their feedback on the drug: the medicine helped or did not help get rid of the disease, which were observed complications and side effects, possibly not declared by the manufacturer in the annotation. Analogues of Almagel in the presence of existing structural analogues.Use to treat heartburn and other symptoms of ulcers, gastritis in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and lactation. Composition of the preparation.
Almagel - neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which leads to a decrease in the digestive activity of gastric juice. Does not cause secondary hypersecretion of gastric juice. It has an adsorbent and enveloping effect, reduces the effect of damaging factors on the mucous membrane.
The therapeutic effect after taking the drug comes in 3-5 minutes and lasts an average of 70 minutes.
Almagel provides long-term local neutralization of gastric juice that continuously dissolves and reduces the content of hydrochloric acid in it to optimal limits for treatment. Aluminum hydroxide suppresses the secretion of pepsin, neutralizes hydrochloric acid, forming aluminum chloride, which in the alkaline environment of the intestine is converted to alkali aluminum salts. Magnesium hydroxide also neutralizes hydrochloric acid, turning into magnesium chloride. Thus, the effect of aluminum hydroxide, which causes constipation, is counteracted.Magnesium hydroxide and magnesium chloride are resorbed to an insignificant degree and practically do not affect the concentration of magnesium ions in the blood. The sorbitol, which is part of the preparation, promotes increased bile secretion and has a mild laxative effect, supplementing the action of magnesium hydroxide.
Almagel does not dramatically increase the pH of the contents of the stomach, it buffers its value from 4.0-4.5 to 3.5-3.8 (physiological value) in the period between doses. The drug forms a protective layer, ensuring a uniform spread of active substances on the gastric mucosa and has a long-term local effect without the subsequent formation of carbon dioxide in the stomach, which in turn is the cause of flatulence, a feeling of gravity in the epigastric region and a secondary increase in the secretion of hydrochloric acid.
The drug for oral use refers to slightly toxic agents and does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects. In some cases, marked tendon reflexes were noted in newborns whose mothers took the drug for a long time. In addition, newborns are at risk of developing hypermagnesemia, especially when dehydrated, therefore prolonged use of the drug for pregnant and newborn is not recommended.
Benzocaine (part of the preparation Almagel A) has an effective and long-lasting local analgesic effect in severe pain syndrome.
Simethicone (included in the preparation of Almagel Neo) makes it difficult to form gas bubbles and contributes to their destruction. The gases released in this way are absorbed by the walls of the intestine and are excreted from the body by peristalsis.

Pharmacokinetics
Almagel is a nonabsorbable preparation. When the correct dosage regimen and duration of treatment are observed, it is practically not resorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and has a long, uniform action, without disturbing the electrolyte balance and without creating the danger of the occurrence of alkalosis or other metabolic disorders. It does not irritate the urinary system and, with prolonged use, does not cause alkalosis and the formation of concrements in the urinary tract.
