Application in pregnancy and lactation

In experimental animal studies, no clear data were available for the teratogenic effect of aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide.

special instructions

If, during treatment, symptoms from the GI tract persist for more than 10 days or if the condition worsens, then the diagnosis should be clarified and treatment adjusted.

It should be observed a 2-hour interval between the use of Maalox and other drugs and a 4-hour interval between taking Maalox and fluoroquinolones.

It should be avoided the long-term administration of Maalox in cases of impaired renal function. When Maalox is prescribed for patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency, plasma concentrations of aluminum and magnesium must be carefully monitored, and in the case of their increase, the drug should be discontinued immediately.

Algeldrate with a low phosphate content in food can lead to the development of phosphorus deficiency in the body. Therefore, when it is used, especially long-term, it is necessary to ensure sufficient supply of phosphates with food.

One mini-package contains 3.15 g of sucrose and 0.2 g of sorbitol, respectively, the maximum daily dose contains 37.80 g of sucrose and 2.4 g of sorbitol.

Despite the fact that the drug is dispensed without a prescription, it is recommended to consult a doctor before using the drug during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding), as well as in adolescents over 15 and patients with renal insufficiency of mild and moderate severity.

Drug Interactions

With simultaneous application with quinidine, it is possible to increase the serum concentrations of quinidine and the development of an overdose of quinidine.

With the simultaneous administration of Maalox, the absorption of the following medicines from the digestive tract decreases: Acetylsalicylic acid (and other salicylates),blockers of histamine H2 receptors, propranolol, atenolol, metoprolol, chloroquine, diflunizal, digoxin, bisphosphonates, ethambutol, isoniazid, fluoroquinolone, sodium fluoride, GCS (described for Prednisolone and dexamethasone), indomethacin, lansoprazole, lincosamides, levothyroxine sodium, ketoconazole, sodium polystyrene sulfate, penicillamine, iron salts, tetracyclines, phenothiazine neuroleptics, phosphorus-containing food additives, fexofenadine. In the case of a 2-hour interval between taking these preparations and the Maalox preparation and a 4-hour interval between taking fluoroquinolones and Maalox, in most cases, undesired interactions can be avoided.

With simultaneous administration of salicylates and Maalox preparation, excretion of salicylates with urine as a result of alkalinization of urine under the influence of Maalox preparation increases.

When aluminum hydroxide is combined with citrates, it is possible to increase plasma concentrations of aluminum, especially in patients with renal insufficiency.

With an antacid drug called Maalox, in the form of a suspension, I had to face more than once. This is due to my chronic antral gastritis. With this diagnosis, it is difficult to avoid the periodic occurrence of pain in the stomach. This drug successfully copes with them. After being pregnant, she was saved by Maalox twice from heartburn. And later my child was prescribed for colic.

It can be used, being in any situation, it is enough to stretch and tear the bag. Water and that is not needed. One can only note a slight specific flavor combined with a aftertaste, which remains slightly in the mouth.

On my experience I was convinced that, although this is by no means an expensive drug, its effectiveness can always be calculated.

Once I got heartburn, I dabbled in my mother's first aid kit and found the maalox. I thought, since he is from ulcers and gastritis, it means that he must also help with heartburn. In principle, he relieved me of heartburn that evening, but he rewarded me with a "pobochka" in the form of constipation for the whole evening. I do not want to say anything bad about the drug, but be careful.
