Levomycetin - a synthetic antibiotic, identical to the natural - the product of the life of the microorganism Streptomyces venezuelae.

Effective against many gram-positive cocci (gonococci and meningococci), various bacteria (intestinal and hemophilic rods, salmonella, shigella, klebsiella, serratsii, iersbnia, proteus), rickettsia, spirochaete and some large viruses. The drug is active against strains resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, sulfonamides. It is weakly active against acid-fast bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, clostridia and protozoa.

It acts bacteriostatically. The mechanism of antibacterial action is associated with a violation of the synthesis of proteins of microorganisms.

Drug resistance to the drug develops relatively slowly, with, as a rule, no cross-resistance to other chemotherapeutic agents.

Pharmacokinetics

It inhibits peptidyl transferase and breaks the protein synthesis in the bacterial cell. When ingested quickly absorbed from the digestive tract, the therapeutic concentration is maintained for 4-5 hours, bioavailability - 75-90%. Binding to plasma proteins - 50-60%.Penetrates into the organs and body fluids, passes through the BBB and the placental barrier, is found in breast milk. The main amount undergoes biotransformation in the liver; formed conjugates and about 10% of unchanged levomycetin are excreted by the kidneys, in part - with bile and feces. In the intestines, under the action of intestinal bacteria, it hydrolyses with the formation of inactive metabolites.

When instillation in the conjunctival sac creates sufficient antibacterial concentrations in the aqueous humor of the eye, partially enters the systemic bloodstream.

Many people advise drinking levomycetin for diarrhea, but I still run to the toilet more. Here I look in the side there is diarrhea, so it turns out the left can itself provoke diarrhea. What is the meaning of the medicine?

indigo, the point is that the medicine should not be taken lightly, but as a doctor advised. How much humanity exists, and the whole stereotype that Levomycetin must be taken with diarrhea, and without discrimination. One time the patient came to the reception with diarrhea of allergic genesis (and sometimes such), and brought a passion for diversions from diarrhea, including Levomycetin, from which the allergic component only increased, provoking a strong fluid stool.

Levomycetin was prescribed to my child by a pediatrician when the little girl started to fester a glazik. The doctor advised to wipe the eye three times a day with cotton wool soaked in a solution of levomycetin. They did everything as it should, but it did not get better. After several days of torment, they changed the medicine, everything went literally for the day!

Tell or Say please how much the ready solution levomitsetina can be stored. The fact is that there are only bottles of 1 gram, but it is necessary for 0.5 gr. If I inject 5 ml of novocaine or water through a rubber cover and take 2.5 ml of solution, can the remaining solution be stored until the next injection? Thank you.

Margo, Levomycetin is a fairly persistent antibiotic even after breeding. Therefore, a day the prepared solution will stand, but it is not necessary anymore (as I understand it is prescribed to prick every 12 hours). You can store the diluted solution in the refrigerator, avoiding direct light.
