In this article, you can read the instructions for using the drug Gifast. Presented are reviews of visitors to the site - consumers of this medication, as well as the opinions of physicians specialists on the use of Gifast in their practice. A big request is to actively add their feedback on the drug: the medicine helped or did not help get rid of the disease, which were observed complications and side effects, possibly not declared by the manufacturer in the annotation. Analogues of Gifast in the presence of existing structural analogs. Use to treat allergies or allergic rhinitis and urticaria in adults, children, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.Composition of the preparation.

Gifast - blocker of histamine H1 receptors. Fexofenadine (active substance of the drug Gifast) is a pharmacologically active metabolite of terfenadine. Does not have a sedative effect. The antihistamine effect is manifested after 1 hour, reaching a maximum after 6 hours, and lasts for 24 hours. After 28 days of admission, there was no addiction. It was found that if administered orally in a dose range of 10 mg to 130 mg, the effectiveness of fexofenadine is dose-dependent.

Composition

Fexofenadine + excipients.

Pharmacokinetics

After ingestion Gifast is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), its maximum concentration in the blood is determined after 1-3 hours. Binding to plasma proteins - 60-70%. Isolated with breast milk, 5% of the dose is subjected to partial extrahepatic metabolism. It is excreted mainly with bile (80%), 10% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged.

Indications

  • allergies, including allergic rhinitis or runny nose caused by pollen from plants;
  • other allergic rhinitis, including year-round allergic rhinitis;
  • hives, including chronic.

Forms of release

Tablets coated with 120 mg and 180 mg.

Instructions for use and dosing regimen

For adults and children over 12 years of age, the daily dose is 120-180 mg once a day.

Side effect

  • headache;
  • drowsiness;
  • dizziness;
  • fatigue;
  • nausea;
  • lethargy;
  • increased fatigue.

Contraindications

Application in pregnancy and lactation

Gifast is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

Fexofenadine penetrates into breast milk. If fexofenadine is needed during lactation, the question of stopping breastfeeding should be addressed.

Use in children

The use of the drug in children younger than 6 years is not recommended.

Application in elderly patients

Use with caution in elderly patients.

special instructions

Use with caution in elderly patients, in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency.

The efficacy and safety of fexofenadine in children younger than 6 years have not been studied.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and manage mechanisms

Based on the pharmacodynamic profile and known side effects, it can be assumed that Gifast's influence on the ability to drive vehicles and activities requiring increased concentration of attention is unlikely. When conducting objective studies, it was shown that fexofenadine does not significantly affect the functions of the central nervous system (CNS). Nevertheless, it is recommended to check the individual reaction before starting driving vehicles or other potentially hazardous activities.

Drug Interactions

Fexofenadine is not biotransformed in the liver and therefore does not interact with other drugs that undergo hepatic metabolism.

It was shown that when Gifast is used together with Erythromycin or ketoconazole, the concentration of fexofenadine in plasma increases 2-3 times, which is apparently due to an increase in absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and with a reduction in either excretion of bile or gastrointestinal secretion. There was no change in the QT interval on the electrocardiogram.

When taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium 15 minutes prior to fexofenadine intake, a decrease in its bioavailability was observed, most likely due to binding in the digestive tract. The recommended time interval between taking fexofenadine and antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide is 2 hours.

Does not interact with omeprazole, with drugs metabolized in the liver.

Review of the allergist doctor

Patients with allergic rhinitis, which I prescribe Gifast, say that the medicine is good and, most importantly, comfortable. Convenience is that you take the pill once a day. From myself I will say that Gifast is especially effective in cases when allergic rhinitis is associated with the flowering of plants and is caused by their pollen. Patients with this kind of pathology already know themselves, on the pollen of which plants they have allergies, when these plants begin to bloom and when to start taking the drug to ease their condition. Side effects on Gifast in my practice was not.
