The crusade of law enforcement officers for drugs for medical abortion

Roszdravnadzor appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for help in conducting the inspection and control over the sale of drugs for medical abortions in Russia. These are preparations based on active substances Mifepristone and Misoprostol. These drugs should be sold exclusively to the hospital pharmacy network and used in hospitals, rather than entering the free market, because they present a real danger in case of uncontrolled admission and can lead to severe consequences in women, up to a lethal outcome.

Given that in our country you can buy a lot on the black market, the message was initially true and the verification has long been asking for it. Although it was better to implement not a single check of the pharmacists' implementation of the rules for selling drugs from a special list, but to establish a competent automatic control over the turnover of medicines so that throughout the cycle - the production, packaging, sale and reception of drugs, track their circulation. Then, based on a simple sample from the database, you will be able to track where they left and where their lives ended (that is, they were used as intended) on the basis of Mifepristone and misoprostol. Automatic control is much more effective than manual control measures or other procedural actions in which a human factor will be present and abuses are possible.

As it is said in the release, Roszdravnadzor itself does not have enough forces and means for such control to ensure that the verification has led to the desired result, therefore they were brought to the inspection of the siloviki.

The most surprising thing about this release is why the supervising authority has been concerned with the problems with these drugs only now, because they have been used in medical practice for a long time. Perhaps it was the process of refusing to use official abortion services and the number of clandestine abortions is growing again (and this number always grows in moments of timelessness and poverty, as it was in the hard 90s). Although if a gynecologist is engaged in illegal work at home, this check will not do anything, because according to the documents, all the pills will be written off in the hospital, as required by law, just before the patients of the hospital they will not reach. But such a specialist can be caught only by the hand at the time of providing illegal medical assistance, in other cases this is simply unprovable. In general, it will be interesting to look at the final annual statistics of mortality and the results of the audit. After all, the controlling bodies are not so interested in the problem of trafficking in certain drugs.
